Remember how bad INDEPENDENCE DAY
was? Well, this underwritten, visually convulsive, hyper-militarized version of the same story somehow manages to make Roland Emmerich’s film seem rich with human emotion and narrative depth. The biomechanical aliens are so indecipherably designed, they’re non-entities and our heroes are all cookie cutter marine stereotypes.
